About (Background Information):
The College of Agriculture and Rural Transformation was launched during the 2010/2011 (2003 E.C.) academic year as Faculty of Agriculture under the University of Gondar. The college was established with three departments (department of Plant Sciences, Department of Natural Resource Management and Department of Rural Development and Agricultural Extension), 21 academic staffs and 160 undergraduate students. The college has now more than 1100 undergraduate students, more than 70 post graduate students and about 105 academic staffs in 6 undergraduate and 5 post graduate study programs. The college currently has also more than 450 administrative staffs. Since its establishment, the college has been involved in carrying out problem solving research, community service and technology transfer activities in addition to teaching. In order to facilitate the teaching, research, community service and technology transfer activities, the college has established four research and demonstration stations at Dabat, Teda, Belesa and Gorgora areas based on agro-ecology.
The college of Agriculture and Rural Transformation has the following objectives:
- To produce qualified and competent graduates
- To develop appropriate scientific agricultural technologies
- To give community based services
- To promote the dissemination of improved technologies

Contribute to the sustainable socioeconomic development of the country by producing vibrant, compassionate and responsible citizens through societal needs tailored curricula; conducting problem solving research; and strengthening community engagement, and technology transfer.
Vision of the Department:
- To be the leading societal problem-solving college in the Country by 2020.
