- Gondar Family Project
“Gondar Family Project” has been effective since 2019 (2012 E.C) with the very aim of welcoming warmly new students who come to the University of Gondar every year to get the love and care they need from the residents of the city of Gondar and its vicinity.
The main objective of the Gondar Family Project is to establish a strong family bond or tie between the Gondar community and first year students of the University of Gondar. Gondarians have the culture of showing great hospitality, love and respect to guests. This, in turn, is expected to strengthen the solidarity (unity) of Ethiopians and provide the students with a comfortable learning time. Besides, by creating a conducive learning and research environment (platform), the project is aimed at strengthening the effort to produce graduates who will be successful in education and training and employment in the world of work.
More specifically, the project is intended to create opportunity for students have a second foster family in Gondar, to make the students develop a sense of peace of mind and spirit so that they will love the university and Gondar city, to enable students to join their Gondar family members and spend their time with joy and fun during holidays and vacations, to foster everlasting relationship and friendship between the students’ ‘true’ parents/families and their foster parents/families in Gondar,
to strengthen the system in which the teachers of the University of Gondar and the students’ foster families work together to improve the students’ academic performance and ethical issues and produce effective and productive students, and to develop the culture of negotiation and mediation peacefully and friendly to resolve disagreements (if there is any) between students.
