Call for Papers (Women in Ethiopian Art) 9-10 March, 2018

The effect of representational power of women in the media and arts continues to be underestimated in Ethiopia. The portrayal of women or minority groups in popular culture contributes tremendously to their in-/equality in society. This proposed conference and exhibition challenges this silence by offering a space to present and discuss the issue of the presentation of women in Ethiopian art. Paper abstracts are invited to focus on the following topics, but are not restricted to these areas:
• Women in literature
• Women in film/theater
• Women in music clips
• Women in painting
• Women in promotion/advertising
Please send abstracts of no more than 300 words and a short biographical info to the Tewelde Gebremariam (tewibili@gmail.com) and in copy to Dr. Sonja John (sonja.z.john@gmail.com).
The deadline for paper proposals is 15 February 2018. Speakers will be notified of their acceptance by 20 February 2018.
