University of Gondar Welcomes U.S. Ambassador Ervin J. Massinga, Reaffirming 70-Year Partnership
The University of Gondar (UoG) was honored to host U.S. Ambassador Ervin J. Massinga today, July 16, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the enduring 70-year relationship between the university and the United States. This historic partnership, which traces its roots back to President Harry S. Truman’s Point Four program, continues to be a cornerstone of our institution’s mission to provide world-class medical and academic services.

During his visit, Ambassador Massinga met with the University of Gondar President, Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, to discuss the long-standing collaboration that has empowered our university to serve as a beacon of education and research in the region. A central focus of the visit were the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Referral Hospital and Harry S. Truman’s Library at Tewodros campus, where the Ambassador witnessed the impact of U.S.-supported tuberculosis (TB) and multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB programs and modern library and documentation services, respectively.

The life-saving initiatives, supported by the US government, that are undertaken at the university are vital to our efforts in strengthening health systems and improving patient outcomes across Northwest Ethiopia.
The University of Gondar remains deeply committed to this collaborative spirit, utilizing international expertise to advance medical care, research, and community service.
