It’s a part of our being to help each other in tough times: Community Service in the Afar region
In the 2020 fiscal year, the University of Gondar has been able to overcome many problems and create better solutions by providing essential community support.
As an example, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, UoG has been working to raise awareness, provide accommodations for suspected patients, and provide adequate treatment and care for infected individuals.
In Metema, West Gondar Zone, a large number of patients have been provided with medical equipment, various food items and mattresses. In addition periodic transportation was provided which allowed individuals to get from the border areas to the centers.

And just recently UoG President Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn visited displacement camps in Afar. Due to the heavy rains in the region many Afar and Oromia inhabitants have been displaced because of over flooding. Upon his arrival and on behalf of the University of Gondar, the President was able to hand out much needed essentials to those who were hard hit by the damage. The items which are estimated around 500,000 Birr included soaps, hygiene essentials, medicine, blankets, rice and pasta.
