UoG and Medical University of Vienna
University of Gondar signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Medical University of Vienna, Austria on December 17, 2012. The MOU was signed by Professor Mengesha Admasu, President of University of Gondar; Professor Dr. Wolfgang Schuetz,President of Medical University of Vienna;Professor Dr. Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, Director of Center for Geographic and Migration Medicine from Medical University of Vienna; Assoc. Prof. Harald Noedl, International Affairs, Center for Geographic and Migration Medicine, Medical University of Vienna; and Assoc. Prof. Afework Kassu, General Director for Research and Community Services University of Gondar.
The Medical University of Vienna and the University of Gondar agreed on collaborating in the field of student exchange programs with a strong focus on training in infectious and tropical diseases. Activities shall include (but will not be limited to) the joint organization of a certificate/diploma course in tropical and travel medicine to start in 2013; student exchange on an individual basis for short, medium, and long term stays; establishing student exchange programs for groups of students as the basis for regular exchange; exchange of teaching staff for short term assignments in support of international academic programs.
In addition, the two universities share a common interest in a number of research fields, aiming at cooperating within these areas. These interests include (but are not limited to) drug resistance and drug development in tropical diseases (including but not limited to malaria); tropical medicine research (clinical and lab-based); parasitology; public health; vaccinology and immunology.
