University of Gondar’s Delegate Attended a Coordination and Future Cooperation Workshop of the EBL-Nexus Project
Professor Fasil Kebede, dean of faculty of Agriculture at the university of Gondar attended two workshops in the framework of the DAAD funded project “Enquiry-Based Learning in the Curricula of Master-Level Courses in the Water and Land Nexus” (EBL-Nexus) that were hosted at the Institute for technology and resource management in the tropics and subtropics From 3th to 7th of February .
The first workshop focused on project administration and planning of activities within this joint project between the University of Gondar, the University of Khartoum, the Addis Ababa University and the Jordan University. University of Gondar from Northern Ethiopia was represented at the workshops because of its involvement in the Ethiopian case study development and as an important partner for future cooperation. The EBL project activities in 2014 are highlighted by the organization of a joint student project in Northern Ethiopia with the participation of students and staff members of all participatory universities. Furthermore, the participants discussed current efforts for curriculum harmonization and the development of case studies. In this regard, the first draft of the educational movie on rain-fed agriculture in the Ethiopian highlands was presented. This educational movie, together with other case study movies to be developed on the Nile watershed, will be used as a common resource for teaching and trainings at all project universities.
In the second workshop on future cooperation, the participants developed jointly new ideas to extend cooperation into new projects with the involvement of European and international partners. The participants showed their commitment to develop new research projects in the context of the EU research program HORIZON 2020 and higher education projects for the EU-program ERASMU+. They presented concepts and identified suitable calls to be targeted this year. Besides, the participants agreed on the organization of a joint conference on transboundary water management in the Nile in the upcoming years.
The project EBL-Nexus is led by the Institute for technology and resource management in the tropics and subtropics and combines efforts with three leading universities from Jordan, Sudan and Ethiopia. EBL-Nexus focuses on integrating enquiry-based learning and the use of case-studies in the curricula of master-level programs in the field of land and water management. Successfully, the University of Gondar and the University of Khartoum signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will foster transboundary cooperation in the field of water and land management.
