UoG expands on its International Partnerships
At the request of the University of Gondar Jenny McNulty visited the University of Gondar in 2018 and her time at UoG marked the progression of a great relationship. Jenny who is from the University of Montana, and who is the dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences, pursued the aim of introducing more active teaching and learning strategies for the math department.
Coming from the University of Montana she also worked on enhancing the already strong relationship with UoG. In her time at the University of Gondar she worked jointly with UoG officials to renew the existing Memorandum of Understanding.
McNulty’s duties during her stay included checking in on math classes, running workshops, and curriculum work.
Through a series of workshops, McNulty modeled active learning techniques to faculty members. She taught math faculty new ways to engage students and help them remember concepts. Her methods included writing a one-minute paper, creating a graphic illustration, or even making up a song.
According to Prof Jenny, she eventually wants to work with University of Gondar colleagues to create a homegrown mentorship program for students. In the meantime, McNulty and UoG staff hope the faculty program they have established continues for years to come.
In an effort to strengthen the University of Gondar’s capacity staff members from UoG were able to get a quality education at the University of Montana. This relationship and partnership will only get better in the future and great individuals like Jenny McNulty can only create an atmosphere where UoG opens up to international institutions for the betterment of the country.
