UoG Signs Memorandum of Understanding with University of Gedarif, Sudan

UoG’s president, his Excellency, Dr. Desalegn Mengesha, Dr Ayalew Temesgen, Dean of the Natural and Computational Sciences College, and other two faculties of the college were in North Sudan recently based on the invitation they received from University of Gadarif, to make an official agreement on potential cooperation areas on which both universities will be working on jointly, and attend the 4th International conference on computer sciences and technology, hosted by University of Gadarif. Accordingly a cooperative agreement was signed on 23rd January, 2016, by UoG’s president, his Excellency, Dr. Desalegn Mengesha and Vice-Chancellor of University of Gedarif, Prof. Ibrahim Abdesalam Yousif.

As clearly stated on the MoU signed both institutions agreed on the following general forms of cooperation areas.

• Consultation and exchange of opinions and expertise between the two universities should be encouraged, promoted and brought into force.
• Relations between the two universities should be strengthened through exchange of visits between both students and staff members
• Visits of staff members can involve teaching tasks as well as joint research program
• Students-relations can take the form of expeditions with particular purposes, to be arranged and executed, in the long vacation or, otherwise, it can be short trips during any other vacations and periods of holiday between semesters
• Student- relations can involve student-exchange and joint academic assignments to be jointly supervised by staff-members from both sides

This has been the second agreement that UoG signed with higher learning institutions in Sudan. The first one was with Kartoum, University in the year 2014. As can be referred on the MoU signed, the main focus area of the agreement is dominantly on the staff and student exchange elements of internationalization. Such agreements made within the continent, unlike with others, are believed to have a relieving impact on the ever challenging expenses of transportation and living costs and related problems that universities in the third world are facing to realize especially their staff and student exchange elements of internationalization.

Thus, as the commencement of this agreement is starting from the aforementioned date on which the MoU is signed, the staff of both universities are advised and encouraged to initiate specific joint-venture activities on which the agreement would be practically realized.
