A Hairdresser who laid up Lifesaving Treasure for Generations of Mothers and Children to come
Can any ordinary person, such as a hairdresser, be more influential
thana medical practitioner in saving lives?
Here is Yeshi’s practical experience and Let me leave the judgment to the readers.
Her name is Yeshi BeyeneHagos, an Ethiopian, born in Gondar, leading married life as a hairdresser in Spain, and founder of an NGO called AYME (Ayudamos a mama en Etiopia/Let’s Help Mothers in Ethiopia), based in Spain, Madrid. Her grandmother’s admittance to be operated in the obstetric unit of University of Gondar’s hospital was her first inspirational moment, to establish the NGO (AYME) that laid up a lifesavingmaternity clinic and would-be hospital in the out skirts of Gondar town, Lozakebele, which would be a treasure for generations to come.Her philanthropicactivities and real devotions to Ethiopia, honored Yeshi Beyene, a nickname -“an Ethiopian Ambassador” by the Spanish community she lives around.While this project was under construction it was visited by the king of Spain, his majesty Mensajeros de la Paz and representatives of the principality of Austurias, which is another practical sign of Yeshi’s “ambassadorship”.

In addition to constructing and equipping the maternity clinic with the necessary materials, AYME has also donated an ambulance, uniforms and other materials to firemen, sewing machines to a self-managed cooperative of women living with HIV/AIDS, in Gondar city and made humanitarian support to villages around Gondar.
University of Gondar is honored to take over the responsibility of managing this maternity clinic and further develop it in to a hospital level as pronounced by the higher officials of the University during the hand-over ceremony held on December 29, 2015withGondar city’s administration, with which the project agreement was originally signed.AYME’s initial objectives of establishing the health facility and networking of health care in pregnancy and childbirth for women of Gondar, and its aspirations in creating a training school and facilities for volunteering are fully acknowledged and unequivocally agreed by UoG to realize the concurrent visions of both organizations. Dr. DesalegnMengesha, President of UoG, emphasized this in his speech made during the inaugural ceremony of the Maternity clinic held on February 14, 2016.
