The 17th Annual TB Research Conference is underway
The 17th Annual TB Research Conference and World TB Day 2023 with the theme of “Indigenous solution to eradicate TB” will be held in the university’s Science Amba Auditorium from March 22 through 24 2023.
As a country, the rate of TB infection and the number of people dying from TB has been decreasing year by year, but as Ethiopia is one of the 30 countries with the highest number of TB patients, a lot of work is being done to reduce this and achieve the goal of eliminating TB disease at the international level, said Dr. Lia. She stated that such conferences, which are based on results and findings, will be a great resource for prevention and control.
Likewise, Professor Afework Kassu, Director General of Armauer Hanson Research Institute and Chairman of the TB Research Advisory Council, shared the same sentiments.
“Many research projects have been carried out by scholars in the field to prevent and control TB,” shared Professor Afework, “and much more must be done to eradicate it moving forward.”
He stated that in the future, the council will work to achieve the goal of eradicating TB disease at the international level by carrying out research activities.
It was also stated in the conference that people in prisons, those confined in close quarters, and those affected by other diseases such as HIV and diabetes are more vulnerable to TB.
More than 40 research results from TB treatment and research institutions will be presented at this annual conference, which was organized by the TB Research Center of the University of Gondar, the Amhara Region Health Office, and other federal institutions.
