College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences at the University of Gondar organizes a grant writing training
Research and Publication Office of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences at the University of Gondar organized a capacity building training on grant writing on July 07, 2023.

Dr. Berhanu Admassu, a renowned veterinarian with over 3 decades of national and international experience in, among others, academic research, project management and consultancy, delivered the training. While sharing his experience of writing successful grant proposals, he shared with participants of the training that the first important step is to let research ideas originate from problems presented by farmers. Proposals should, accordingly, be designed to solve such problems. He also unpacked the tactics to developing an excellent grant proposal and shared his lived livestock marketing experience.
Dr. Berhanu also hinted that the best way to design an impactful research and win grants is to be a change agent in the livestock market by working on on-ground realities of livestock production systems by changing the ‘Aha’ moments into meaningful and problem-solving research proposals. His tips to wining grants included that a good proposal needs to be climate-smart, sustainable and scalable, and it should be designed collaboratively.

Dr. Getachew Assefa, vice dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, passed on his message to the training participants on the importance of focusing on the way forward and embarking on actual grant writing. In his closing remark, Dr. Shimelis Dagnachew, dean of the College, stated that Dr. Berhanu is a veteran veterinarian and his experience is worth listening to. Dr. Shimelis added that it is never too late for the participants to strive to win (more) grants and professionally grow by making use of their expertise and resources.
