About Us
Overview
With the eminence of a multi-polar global order in 21st century, there is a growing need for institutions and order, sound government policy, and analysis of strategic issues to achieve nations’ development aspirations. This requires foresight and rigorous analysis of policies, and megatrends to shape policy making and international relations. However, governments often focus their sights on electoral outcomes and economic actors take less informed positions in political debates.
Under this backdrop, the Center for Policy and Strategy Studies (CPSS) was founded in 2021 at the university of Gondar to generate knowledge and insights through rigorous policy research and analysis of strategic issues that inform governance, development, and regional cooperation. It provides policy-based evidence and analysis of megatrends to inform organizational decision-making and public policy, supporting development priorities at all levels. In addition, it fosters the culture of policy debates, and public dialogue through an intellectually engaging policy forums, public lectures and seminar series. Finally, the center strengthens policy implementation capacity of the public sector through skills training and public outreach projects.
Vision
CPSS aspires to be one of the premier centers for policy research, analysis of strategic issues, and social conversation in East Africa by 2035.
Mission
CPSS is committed to conduct research on policy and strategic issues that inform public policy and international relations, facilitate policy debates and public dialogue to build trust in the social contract, and cultivate a network of policy researchers, leaders, and practitioners that shape policy making and implementation for national and regional development.
Goals
- Provide advice on critical policy issues and strategic developments.
- Create institutional platform for scholarly policy debates and public dialogue.

The treasury resources are provided by the University of Gondar in different forms including procurement of material inputs, provision of office and research facilities, and overhead.
