On May 1, 2026, the University of Gondar and One Health Global Alliance (OHGA) signed an agreement that elevates the university’s 15-year successful “One Health” collaboration with The Ohio State University to a new international level.
This agreement, conducted in the presence of the founders and leaders of the One Health Global Alliance (OHGA), as well as the University’s President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, and faculty, makes the University of Gondar one of the few inaugural universities and research institutions in this newly formed alliance.

By registering on the international platform managed by this alliance, the University will have the opportunity to showcase its research and community service work to the world and establish new partnerships.
Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, President of the University of Gondar, stated that beyond strengthening the existing partnership, this agreement will significantly enhance the institution’s international impact and visibility.
Dr. Desalegne Mengesha, former President of the University of Gondar and current Country Director of Ohio State University Global One Health Initiative, noted that the new agreement will further enhance the successful journey the collaboration has had in training faculty and building leadership capacity.
Dr. Tekuam Worku, Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of the One Health Global Alliance, confirmed that the University was selected to join this international alliance based on its strong performance demonstrated thus far.

Professor Wondwossen Gebreyes from the Ohio State Global One Health Initiative stated that this agreement creates a broad opportunity for the University to establish links with international organizations, conduct joint research in various academic fields, and make the institution’s research findings accessible on the international stage. He also praised the motivation of the University of Gondar’s leadership and faculty, urging that this commitment should continue to be strengthened in the future.
