Tewodros 150th anniversary from Quara to Maqdala: a journey through historical sites

The University of Gondar has arranged and organized a number of events and festivities to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Emperor Tewodros. The country has observed from afar when most of the university community were working tirelessly to make all the events possible. But on that 4 day trip from Quara to Maqdala, the entire nation was invited to take an in-depth look into Tewodros’s journey from his birthplace to his subsequent death at Maqdala.
To celebrate his life and achievements, the University of Gondar organized a tour to commemorate his life and death illustrated by visiting historical sites. The journey saw the tour go to his birthplace, his place of coronation and the place where he sacrificed himself for the country.
The first leg of the trip was from Gondar to Quara. In Quara a historical place named Delgee was toured where the tour participants got a chance to stop at an Orthodox church called DelgeeMariam. DeresgayMariam Orthodox church, Gafat, Gorgora, Altash National Park, leza Mariam monetary and the Emperor’s cave were just a few of the sites that were seen.
Media outlets from all over Ethiopia were invited on the journey. Various news outlets, a number of Amhara university representatives, the Amhara State Culture and Tourism bureau and the zones Culture and Toursim office all took part in the tour.
