University of Gondar Congratulates Newly Ranked Professors
The University of Gondar would like to congratulate Professor Nega Berhane Tesemma and Prof. Baye Gelaw for their dedication and hard work in various academic fields. They attained their Professorship in recent days and have for some time now shaped and established key departments at the University of Gondar.
Firstly, Prof. Nega joined the University as lecturer in the department of Basic Science at the Gondar College of Health Sciences in 2001. One of the major contributions Prof. Nega provided to the university community is establishing the Biology department and in addition to this by founding the Biotechnology department subsequently thereafter.
In his study career, Prof Nega joined Panjab University in Chandigarh India and obtained a PhD degree in Biotechnology (Medical Biotechnology) in March 2010. He also then launched a M.Sc. program in Biotechnology in 2011 and served as the head of the Department of Biotechnology from 2013 through 2018. He is also a 2016 Global leadership Fellow of the Cornell Alliance for Science (Cornell University).
In addition the University of Gondar would also like to congratulate Prof. Baye Gelaw who has dedicated his life to the advancement of his country and who has now reached the panicle of academic prominence. The professor has acquired his Professorship in a discipline that is needful and expedient for the country. Newly ranked Professor Baye Gelaw Tarekegn, who got his PhD in Medical Microbiology from the University of Leicester (UK) , was born on 10 January 1969 and has been happily married for 26 years.
The father of four, joined the then Gondar College of Medical Sciences (GCMS) as a junior medical laboratory technician and then attended a senior medical laboratory technician training at the former National Research Institute in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He later got his BSc degree in medical laboratory technology from Jimma Institute of Health Sciences and subsequently received his MSc degree in medical microbiology from Addis Ababa University’s Faculty of Medicine.
Once again the University of Gondar would like to congratulate these two men for their work in the academic field. Their dedication and commitment for the University of Gondar cannot be summed up in a few words. Therefore with humility and respect we at UoG would like to express our greatest joy on their accomplishment!
