Vice President of Business and Development of the University of Gondar held the first national workshop on the University of Gondar’s Information Communication Technology Policy (ICT Policy) on December 26, 2020 at Maraki Campus Aluminum Hall.
The ICT Policy of the University of Gondar is a first of its kind and is said to bring about some much needed change.
Those who attended include Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, President of UoG, Dr. Mesfin Belachew, Senior Adviser to the Ministry of Technology and Innovation on Digital Transformation Program, Dr. Lema Lesa from Addis Ababa University, Dr. Kassahun Tegne, Academic Vice President of UoG, Deans and other invited guests.
ICT policy is said to regulate and plan a road map for the way Information Communication Technology concepts and work are done in the future. The committee who came up with the comprehensive work set clear and cut guidelines of how ICT should operate in the years and decades to come.
With that being said though, as the first round of discussions on the Policy commenced a few months ago, this round of talks incorporated guests and professionals in the field to pass along their experiences. Through power point presentations, they elaborated on what should be added and left out so that the policy could be more effective.
Some of the points that were raised included making it more simple, to get feedback from others, to include data access policy, incorporate surveillance techniques and to enact comprehensive email reform.
