China Higher Education Exhibition 2019 ends on a good note
At the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa various Universities from the Chinese mainland held an exhibition to showcase their desire and intention to recruit Ethiopian students. The Chinese Universities which include Xidian University, Zhejiang University, Renmin University, Bejing Normal University, Peking University and numerous others are looking to forge ties with Ethiopian Universities and students by giving scholarships.

Those who took part in the Exhibition were, among others, the Minister of Science and Higher Education H.E Prof. Hirut Weldemariam, State Minister of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education H.E Prof. Afwerk Kassu, Chinese Ambassador to China H.E Amb Tan Jian, Chinese Universities International Relations recruiters, Ethiopian Higher Education Institutions and Ethiopian prospective students.

When speaking on the event the Chinese Ambassador stressed that the world needs to invest more in its people and that will ultimately raise standards of living everywhere.There are three kinds of resources, he stressed, that include financial, natural and human and he thinks the last one is the most important.
Ambassador Amb expressed, “when I say human resources, it not just human brawn, more human brains. And we developing countries have the human resources potential in abundance but the thing is how to exploit it all.”
On her part, the Minister of Science and Higher Education shared her sentiments about the long-standing relationship between Ethiopia and China. “Our two counties have a long historic ties but it is not only long standing but strategic,” said Prof. Hirut. She believes this partnership is a great role model for successful win-win cooperation in Africa. She concluded by stating that the partnership is growing and becoming more and more effective in various areas which include trade, investment and infrastructure.

China started to receive African students as early as 1956, and has been increasing the scholarship opportunities year by year. Since 2015, the china government has been proving around 10,000 scholarships to African countries each year. More than 400 Ethiopian students get scholarships and go to study in China every year and the number has been increasing yearly.
