Dr. Sisay Yifru Wins the 2015 Young Rising Star Award of P2P
Congratulations!
Dr. Sisay Yifru, the current Dean of College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UoG, receives one of the highest and prestigious “Young rising star award” of People to People (P2P), an organization of primarily health professionals in the Diaspora whose objectives are broadly based on assisting improvement and development of health care services and medical education in Ethiopia. The recognition award was presented to Dr. Sisay at p2p’s annual Diaspora Health Care and Medical Education Conference in Washington DC on Saturday September 26, 2015.

According to P2P, Dr. Sisay has been widely nominated for this award with a strong confirmation and selection by p2p recognition award selection committee. Hence, this award offered to Dr. Sisay in recognition of his committed service in the provision of medical care to patients of all ages in his early professional practice in areas of limited access to facilities, his continuing interest in all round comprehensive medical care while heading the department of pediatrics in his own specialty, his highly effective and productive leadership as Dean of the college of medicine and health sciences of UoG that has registered remarkable expansions of medical specialties and post graduate training programs under his leadership, and his exemplary work in medical and community – life research as well as his keen interest in collaborative work locally, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Sisay has got different similar awards, certificates of recognition and appreciation from different institutions justifying the recent recognition he got from P2P. For instance, he has got recognition from the partner international organization based in Kenya, DNDi(Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiatives) on July 15, 2009, for the Contribution he has provided to Leishmaniasis East African platform (LEAP). He also got a medal and certificate awards from Ethiopian ministry of education (MOE) (from his Excellency, minister of MOE, Shiferaw Shigutie), on July 6, 2014, for the excellent contribution and dedication he has exhibited in his leadership and close follow-up in realizing the Comprehensive outpatient center of UoG new specialized Referral Hospital, starting from drafting the project proposal worth multimillion birr, till the completion of its construction. Similarly, his mother institution, UoG has also awarded him a certificate of recognition on March 15, 2011, for the relentless effort he rendered in making the Eye Care Hospital of the University a reality.
Besides, as mentioned by P2P, Dr. Sisay’s contribution to his nation has not been restricted to his leadership role rather he has also made significant contributions as an academician, researcher, and medical practitioner and specialist. It is these long years of his cumulative relentless efforts in all the mentioned areas that made him to achieve an associate professor level of his current academic rank.
Finally, since this international award that Dr. Sisay received from P2P recognizes not only him, but also the general staff of the university, the Public and International Relations Directorate of the university would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Sisay, his associates, and the overall staff of the University for the integral recognition you brought to the university at such an international level. Moreover, we wish you all a similar fruitful future endeavor.
