
Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Engages UoG Leadership for Strategic Consultations
On March 28, 2025, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar hosted a consultative meeting with UoG’s middle-level management team. This key session marked an important step in preparing for the Program’s second phase proposal, providing a platform to highlight the its impactful achievements and ongoing efforts.


The gathering not only celebrated the successes of the past eight years but also served as a space for meaningful feedback, aiming to refine and enhance the Program’s services.
Dr. Kassahun Tegegne, Academic Vice President of the University of Gondar, kicked off the meeting with an inspiring opening remark on the need for collective efforts towards disability inclusion.
Dr. Molalign Belay, the Program’s Director, offered a comprehensive overview, spotlighting significant developments like development of a roadmap for the second phase of the Program’s eLearning initiative, the transition support for Scholars entering the workforce, and advancements in fostering disability inclusion at UoG. Additionally, he outlined the ambitious goal of expanding the Program to high schools in its second phase.
In his call to action, Dr. Molalign urged participants to unite in supporting Scholars’ success by raising awareness about disability, nurturing a sense of community and ownership, and maintaining regular follow-ups on Scholars’ progress. He also emphasized the importance of being ambassadors for both the Program and the University.

The discussion touched on various concerns, such as improving the recruitment of qualified Scholars, supporting their academic journey, promoting ethical standards, and increasing community involvement.


In closing, Dr. Kassahun reminded participants that the future of the Program depends on collective efforts, and he stressed the need for continued advocacy, a shift in attitudes, and a greater focus on empowering Scholars for long-term success.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to promote the Program and strengthen its impact within the University and beyond.
