Towards Addressing Community Problems Strategically
University of Gondar in collaboration with international partners held a one day workshop on the evaluation of the implementation of community service projects at Science Amba hall on April 7, 2016.
A total of 14 community service projects incorporating research and training elements were reported and reviewed during the occasion.

In his opening speech on the event, Dr. Desalegn Mengesha, President of University of Gondar, stated that beyond producing educated people: undergraduate, graduate, and doctorial students, UoG is highly expected to tackle various problems of the community. He then noted that UoG has responsibility in designing problem solving projects, providing situational awareness and letting the society involve in planning and implementation of community service projects.
University of Gondar top managements, vice presidents, Deans, directors, researchers, department heads and other invited guests attended the program. The participants suggested on the strength and limitations of the community service projects presented. Some of the comments were: project implementers should work together and share experiences to maximize their efficiency in their use of resources and be successful implementing projects.
Project owners in their side said, having worked with these community service projects for the last two or three years, one of the biggest challenge has been shortage of vehicles.

In responding to the problem raised, the administration vice president of University of Gondar, Mr. Solomon Abirha said “we will try our best to solve the problems in the future so that there will be minimal impediments in undertaking the projects effectively.”
Finally, the University president gave directions to the project owners and other stakeholders on how the overall implementations of the projects that the University is hosting should focus in the future, and the event was concluded by awarding the presenters with certificate of recognition.
