University of Gondar conducts Operational Research Protocol Development Training for Female Academicians

The Research and Community service vice president office and the female academicians association of the University of Gondar organized the Operational Research Protocol Development Training for all female academicians from January 22-24/2016 at Taye Belay Hotel, Gondar. The basic aim of the training was to encourage and enhance female academicians’ participation on developing quality research proposal and research undertakings of the University of Gondar through mentorship, role modeling and networking.
Welcome addresses were given by Mrs Martha Alemayehu, the University of Gondar female academician’s association president.

Official Opening Speech was delivered by Dr. Takele Tadesse, Vice president for Research and Community service.

The opening session was followed by presentation on “University of Gondar female academician’s association activities and about the training” by Mrs. Martha Alemayehu, FAA president. Motivational speech and Life skill training was made by a distinguished guest Dr. Tewabech Bishaw., from Alliance for Brain-Gain and Innovative Development (ABIDE) – Linking Ethiopians Globally for Increased Opportunities for Brain Gain.

Intensive scientific trainings on the overview of the research process, research types and formulating research proposal, designing smart objective and about qualitative research study design and data collection methods was given by Dr. Mulunesh Abebe, she is a social work expert and gender office director from Bahirdar University. In addition, Dr. Mitikie Molla from Addis Ababa University, Institute of Public Health given training on research topic selection, framing statement of the problem, literature searching and about quantitative research study design & data collection techniques. The training was also followed on Research ethics by Dr. Shitaye Alemu, from University of Gondar, Department of Internal medicine and Institutional Review board Chair person.
In the three days intensive training, a total of 104 female academic staffs in different Collages/ faculties/schools participated actively and about 14 groups were formulated among different disciplines. Each group were developed 14 new Operational Research Protocols in the three days training and the PI’s of each group presented their research titles, objective and the study design and the trainers gave their constructive comments and suggestions in each paper. All research protocols presented were very interesting and address national, regional and local priorities.
After that, the training participants were reflected on the overall activities and objectives of the training and also identify their mentors in the University and took an assignment to report the status of their proposal to the office of Research and Community service Vice president and the female academicians association.
Then after, presentation on “Activities of the office of Vice president for Research and Community service towards female researchers” was made by Dr. Asrat Atsedewoyn, University of Gondar, Research & Publication director. In addition, the way forward on the progress and update of the overall research activities at University of Gondar were given by Dr. Takele Tadesse, Vice president for Research and Community service.
Finally, Mr. Solomon Abraha, President deligate and Vice president for administration of University of Gondar were made the way forward message to all training participants to work hard & strengthen the female academicians association in the University, to improve their participation in decision makings at different level, and to actively involved in problem solving research undertakings and engage in community service activities, and then officially close the training program.
