
University of Gondar Researcher nominated to be a Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences
The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) which is a merit-based society of prominent scholars and research scientists in its 11th General Assembly held on 26th of November 2022, elected Dr. Binyam Chakilu to be a fellow of the academy under the Health Sciences working group. The Academy in its letter states:
“In recognition of his impressive research record, his outstanding contribution to his profession and his international stature and his service to the community at large, the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, has elected him to be a fellow of the Academy under the Health Sciences Working Group”
Dr. Binyam Chakilu Tilahun is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Public Health Informatics and is the Vice president for Research and Technology Transfer at the University of Gondar. He is also the founder and leader of the eHealthLab Ethiopia ( www.eHealthLab.org )- Digital Health Innovation and research center- at the University of Gondar. He is an accomplished researcher with more than 150 publications and currently more than 10 active globally funded projects from major international organizations including- World Health Organization (WHO), Bill & Melinda Gates foundation (BMGF), European Union, UNICEF, Africa CDC, Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and others.
In his acceptance letter to the academy, Dr. Binyam stated:
“I am very grateful and humbled to be a fellow of this prestigious academy. I am looking forward to further work with the scientific community and serving my beloved country.”
Before his return to the University of Gondar, he lived in 3 continents for more than 10 years as postdoctoral Researcher at the university of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada, as Research Associate and PhD fellow at the University of Munster in Germany and as EU Erasmus Mundus Fellow in Europe for his masters study.
