University of Gondar’s Experience with the WHO SMART Guidelines: Digital Adaptation Kits
In a recent webinar, the World Health Organization (WHO) presented the second edition of the WHO Digital Adaptation Kit (DAK) for HIV. During the session, the Center for Digital Health Implementation Science (CDHI) at the University of Gondar shared its experience adapting the HIV DAK to align with Ethiopia’s national HIV guidelines.
Digital Adaptation Kits (DAKs) are a key component of the WHO SMART Guidelines initiative. These kits provide structured, software-neutral documentation aligned with WHO’s HIV recommendations, making them applicable to various digital health systems. DAKs are designed as operational tools, incorporating WHO’s clinical, health system, and data use guidance to systematically inform the development of digital solutions.
The adaptation process used for HIV has also been extended to other health areas, including Antenatal Care (ANC) and Family Planning. Since the webinar, significant progress has been made in these areas.
The CDHI at the University of Gondar has actively collaborated with WHO on this initiative for over two years.
