UoG agreed with Nanolandglobal Ltd. to work on Nanotechnology
University of Gondar signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NanoLandGlobal Ltd. Mr. Dermott Reilly, CEO of NanoLandGlobal Ltd., and his colleagues spoke to an audience of academicians, scientists, and professionals in the University of Gondar’s Management Training Hall on September 17, 2013. Among the distinguished guests was His Excellency, Ambassador Wuletaw.
Professor Afework, the Vice President of Research and Community Service, led the seminar by welcoming guests and speaking about the University’s history, mission, and values. After the introduction, Reilly began his presentation with a brief definition of nanoscience, “It is a manufacturing science that involves the manipulation of matter at the atomic scale. It affects all sectors; everything from medicine and health, to information technology, energy production storage transmission use, materials science, water and environment, and food.”
“Nanotechnology has many practical applications,” said Reilly. For example, imagine a dilapidated tractor in an open field. Start its engine and add oil modified by nanotechnology. The oil heats as it courses through the engine’s pistons and gears and acts as a catalyst to remove pitting holes, thus improving the engine’s mechanical advantage and overall condition. “With nanotechnology, the possibilities are endless” said Reilly, “You are only as limited as your imagination.”
With over 1,000 laboratories worldwide, NanoLandGlobal Ltd. believes it can offer Ethiopia and the University of Gondar more connections to the world than ever before.“Ethiopia has what it takes to be the global leader of nanotechnology manufacturing” said Reilly, “The country has the perfect combination of timing, luck, and climate.”The seminar presenters and distinguished guests agreed that the collaboration between the University of Gondar and NanoLandGlobal Ltd. is the beginning of a new era of national progress and international economic strength. His Excellency, Ambassador Wuletaw, closed the meeting with a speech and a quote, “Let’s get connected to the world.”
