UoG: the road towards International status
Located in the historical town of Gondar, Ethiopia, the University of Gondar is one of the oldest and most well established higher education institutions in the country.
The University was established in 1954 as a Public Health College and Training Center (PHC & TC) in joint effort between the Imperial Ethiopian government, WHO, United States Operation Mission to Ethiopia, and UNICEF. Dictated by the pressing health needs that existed in the 1940’s and 1950’s, the PHC and TC quickly became a pioneer center for public health practices serving as a key source of Ethiopia’s health professionals. UoG remains Ethiopia’s oldest health training institution.
Keeping with this tradition, UoG strives every day to fast track its aims of becoming an international higher education institution.
Through a link, that the Ministry of Science and higher Education posted on its social media sites it could be observed that the best global universities have been ranked and listed with UoG holding a great spot among African Universities. University of Gondar’s ranking was based on a number of criteria that are centered on UoG’s extensive work in the Clinical Medicine field.
