Congratulations! New Master Program is opened in Master of Public Health in Biostatistics
Background of the Department
Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Institute of Public Health) has finalized its preparation to start Mater of Public Health in Biostatistics in collaboration with Hasselt University (Belgium) since July 2015. In addition to the PhD statisticians added to the department this year, the world famous bio-statisticians from Hasselt University will offer the courses of the MPH in biostatistics. The major objective of the program is to produce professionals in Master of Public Health in biostatistics with world class competence that enables professionals to apply the knowledge and skill they acquired from the program on any research geared towards health and health related problems.
More specifically, this program is designed:
-
To produce competent professionals who have expert skills, experience, and knowledge of statistics, health, mathematics, and computer software to analyze large data set.
-
To alleviate the severe shortage of biostatisticians who have the skills to identify public health problems and then formulate the scientific questions to be answered, determine the appropriate sampling techniques, coordinate data collection procedures, and carry out statistical analyses to answer those scientific questions.
-
To ensure that the systems and methods of designing of the health sector in the country are based on evidence based decision through planning, data analysis, modeling and projections, and associated documentation; and ensuring that all these are in line with the strategic development goals of the country and stakeholders
-
To produce Biostatisticians who can work with the research team or researchers, and have a skill to develop new algorithms, statistical techniques, and visualization approaches so that workgroup, and stakeholders can implement findings
-
To enable students who will undergo in this program to work as academics in the biomedical field, analyzing the effects of treatments, environmental conditions, and other factors on living things
-
Eventually, to produce human resource having special knowledge and skill of integrating various concerned disciplines and practitioners working together for the same goal of the improvement of the health of the national and continental community.
-
